Gwynfor Dafydd, Yr.13, was announced the winner of the Chair at this year’s Urdd Eisteddfod in Flint; a huge accomplishment for one so young.
The chair is presented to the winning bard for composing strict metre or free verse poetry of no more than 100 lines. Gwynfor made use of both forms in his collection of poems that discuss themes and ideas such as challenging the establishment and social disparity and inequalities and the problems that come hand in hand with that.
The adjudicators of the chair competition were Gwenallt Llwyd Ifan and Hywel Griffiths, who said: “We believe he was inspired to write the poem following a downbeat programme by the BBC about poverty in the area. He has illustrated his passion and anger skilfully, in an innovative and imaginative manor and he is a truly deserving winner.”
The school and all of Teulu Llanhari congratulate Gwynfor on his success. The first of many undoubtedly!
