A recent Estyn report where Ysgol Llanhari was inspected under the New Estyn Inspection Framework has recognised the fact that Ysgol Llanhari provides stimulating and interesting experiences for its pupils and that there is a strong sense of community within the school. All five inspection areas under the New Framework were judged to be good i.e. the school has many strong features and some minor aspects may require improvement. The inspectors commented that the school is led skilfully by the Headteacher and the senior leadership team, and staff work closely as a team. The headteacher has a clear vision, based on ensuring high standards and this vision is shared by pupils, staff, parents and governors. The report recognises that this strong leadership has ensured an improvement in standards and the teaching is of a consistently high quality.

Llanhari’s pupils are well motivated and work constructively, both independently and with their peers. They play a full role in creating a strong sense of community within the school. The school has an inclusive, caring and Welsh ethos. The report praises the very good working relationship between staff and pupils, The inspectors recognise that teachers have high expectations in terms of pupils’ behaviour and achievement. Teachers at Ysgol Llanhari show an infectious enthusiasm and plan ambitious and stimulating tasks to encourage pupils to achieve to the best of their ability. There are examples of inspirational teaching and lessons which include imaginative experiences for pupils to develop their skills and spark their curiosity.

Estyn inspectors recognised the fact that Ysgol Llanhari is a pioneer school where there is an innovative and experimental attitude in terms of developing the curriculum, and the fact that valuable experiences outside the classroom support the pupils’ experiences.

The school is proud of its recent achievements as one of the first 3-19 schools in Wales, and is very pleased that this has been recognised by the Estyn inspectors.
